LATE
Chapter 1:
5:30 a.m. I read on my alarm clock. 30 minutes past the time I should be getting up. Lately I have been so tired, always waking up late. I wasn't exactly sure, and never thought anything more of it as far as health reasons went. I just thought it was because I had been working myself to hard, and in reality I was. I was working over-time at the hospital for what I wasn't really sure of because it wasn't like I was being paid any more for it. I still got my ten dollar per hour of course but you would think working at a hospital they would at least pay you more for over time.
As I slowly began to wake up for what felt like a long time before getting out of bed. I contemplated whether or not to wear jeans or shorts for the day. Before looking at my clock I checked the weather outside my bedroom window, noticing it was sunny and slightly breazy I glanced at the clock; 5:40 a.m. Shit, I am going to be late for class, again I thought.
I quickly made my way to the bathroom to have a quick shower before turning my clock radio on which had the morning announcers gossiping about the temperature for the rest of the week and weekend. "Well Andy, looks like another great week for us." "Indeed Sal, we've finally got temperatures in the double digits. Not to mention in the low twenties." A sigh of relief went through me knowing that not only the rest of the week was going to be good, but also the weekend.
Several minutes later my quick shower turned into a ten minute one.
I was standing in front of my closet figuring out what to wear, with my hair still dripping wet when I heard Taylor Swift's "Fifteen" come on. It was one of my favorite songs by her.
I tried on several different outfits while signing the song. "Cause when you're fifteen and somebody tell you they love you, you're gonna believe them," I sang while staring at myself in the mirror pulling up my torn up light washed jeans and my multi-colored tank-top with a faint butterfly design on the front I had recently bought from Charlotte Russe. I'll go a little country style I told myself.
Satisfied with my choice I applied my make-up and blow dried my hair. Looking at the clock which now read 6:45 a.m. I had approximately 15 minutes to eat before I had to be out the door and in my car.
As I pulled up on Sarah's driveway I reached down at the volume knob turning down the music while glancing at the digital clock; 7:15 a.m. The real time actually being ten minutes later as I never did get my clock changed since the last time my car was in the shop. I honestly don't know how to change the darn thing. It's in the manual I'm sure of it, but obviously haven't had a chance to read it.
"Heeeyy, gooood morning!" Sarah shouted from outside her front door and began running towards the passenger side of my car. "You're late."
"I know, I know... Don't remind me." I was late every single day that past week. (Monday and Tuesday). But than again I probably wouldn't be late myself if I didn't have to stop on my way and pick you up I thought. Besides, who is she to get upset if I'm late anyway. She should be thankful she has a ride. That's one of the disadvantages of owning a car before any of your friends -- they begin to take advantage of you!
"You won't believe what happened last night."
Oh god hear we go again, not even out of her drive-way yet and she already had to give me the 411 on all the drama I missed the previous night. Sarah loved to carp, and I hated drama, which was the reason I decided not to go out last night, only to hear about it in the morning...
"And... what's that?" I said in the most uninterested sounding voice there is possible, while turning the corner and her house no long in sight, slightly turning the music up. I glanced over at Sarah and saw that she had a mouth full of her muffin chewing as if she were trying to beat a world record muffin eating contest.
Still chewing she mumbled something that I couldn't understand when she than turned down the music which than I realized she had said "turn it down."
Clearing her throat she continued , "Emily got totally out of hands at the Stampede last night." No surprise there, she always drink heavily.
"I'm not surprised," I finally said still in an uninterested voice, "especially at the stampede." The stampede was this country bar over on the far part of town, they always serve the cheapest drinks which in turn of course makes you want to spend the exact amount you would anywhere else, only getting more drunk.
"I know, but last night was insane! She fell off the railing she was sitting on backwards almost breaking her neck, she ordered another shot after that incident which ended up all over the dress she was wearing which happend to be mine that used to belong to you and than as we were leaving getting into Cody's car she pulled the door open and scratched the car parked beside us and in turn put a huge dent into Cody's car!"
Poor Cody I thought, dealing with these girls and then getting a dent in his car door. "What did he say?" I asked seeming somewhat finally interested, turning into the school parking lot.
"Nothing, he just sat there in his drivers seat, didn't say a word, even after dropping us off back home, he didn't even look at either one of us.... I thought he was going to cry by the look on his face."
I parked my car in between two others which had barely fit with enough room to get out before saying anything else. My car was a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP so it was quite wide compared to most of the Volks Wagon Jetta's parked in the lot.
"Well.. maybe it was best he didn't say anything, you know how Emily can get when shes drunk."
"Yeah, your probably right." Sarah replied while squeezing out of the car door.
"I am so glad our classes are finally done this semester.. It's been a long two years." I said with a long sigh of relief grabbing my bag from the trunk.
"I know, I'm super excited to start our own clothing business." Sarah squeeled.
"Yeah, we really need to start thinking about how to start it all up." I said in all seriousness.
"Well... we're only about 10 minutes late, -looking at my watch- I don't think Deb will mind that much. Besides I hear she was just giving us time to go over our stuff for the final exams and that she would just be there to answer any questions he might have." I said while walking in the main front doors of Fanshawe College.
Fanshawe College was located in London, Ontario. It was a great school, it was mostly known for having a lot of talented artists graduate.
As we walked through the classroom door we were greated by our professor Deborah, "Abigail, Sarah, how nice of you girls to finally join us," she said in the most sarcastic way possible.
I sat down holding my gaze on Deb which was now talking to the class outloud at the front of the room. "So, what did I miss?" I asked Christina as quietly as possible. "Oh not much, she just started talking to us all right now." Great I thought, we didn't miss anything important.
Once Deborah got done talking about the hours and where our exam would be held there was an upscene amount of volume with everyone in the room chatting. "Abigail!" Jen called out from the other side of the room. Our room was covered with all kinds of fabrics and clothing manikins which were always dressed with projects people were working on. Some good, some I wondered how they even got accepted into the program.
I looked over at Jen and gave an expression as if to say "what?"
"Come here!" She called out again. I got up from my chair and walked over to where she was sitting with another group of girls that just stared at me the whole time while I continued to talk to her. "What's going on?" I asked. "I heard you went out with a certain somebody this past weekend." Dangit Sarah I thought, always telling people my business. "Yeah, Jake, why do you care?" I asked. "Oh nothing, I didn't know you were two were dating." Dating? Oh I see... If I just as much hang out with a guy that all of a sudden means I'm dating him. "We're not dating... we're just friends, and we happen to like each"---- she cut me off with "See girls, their not dating, I told you there wasn't anyway they could be." she said reassuringly to the other group of girls. "What's that suppose to mean?" I asked in a high pitched sounding voice. "Nothing.. don't worry about it."
I walked away hearing laughter behind me. I swear Jen could be such a bitch sometimes.
"What was that about?" Sarah asked me when I sat back down at my desk with various different shaped buttons everywhere on the table.
"Seems like someone told Jen about my date with Jake last weekend." I said, directing that someone was her.
"I'm sorry Aby, it slipped last night at the bar...I.. I forgot that I mentioned that..Please don't hate me." she winced with a sad puppy dog face.
"I don't hate you, I'm just dissapointed is all." I said looking down at the buttons on my desk thinking about which ones would go great with my buttoned down blouse shirt/dress.
I was first going to make it asa shirt blouse but once I dressed the manikin still having extra fabric at the bottom I noticed that it could be worn as a dress and look half decent. So I did some stitching and hemming and once I got it fitted right, it looked amazing. Now it was all about accessories and a few touches here and there. This was our last project before our final exam at the end of the month. Our project instructions were to design anything we wanted..only it had to be something unordinary.
The dress is mostly purple with some soft white and pink colors throughout. I sowed on belt loops with extra fabric, including a slim white leather clutch belt. The inside of the cuffs I made the same shade of pink in the dress. The sleeves may be worn folded or unfolded at the hands, or rolled up quarter length of the arms. All that it was missing now were the perfect buttons. It's difficult to decide because there are so many different shapes, textures, sizes, number of holes, and of course colors.
At this point I sorted them all out and narrowed it down to the only white and lilac-pink colors as in the dress. Which unfortunately was still a lot.
"I don't feel good." I told Sarah who was sitting at her desk hot glueing fake diamonds to her knee lengthed paneled skirt.
"Sorry.. What?" She asked taking her Ipod headphones out of her ears, clearly she didn't hear a word I said.
"I said I don't feel good..."I repeated, holding my stomach. "I feel like I might throw up."
"Oh dear, well do you want me to goto the bathroom with you?"
"No..It's okay..I'll be right back." I slowly got up with one hand on my stomach and one covering my mouth as I walked out the doorway down the hall to the ladies room.
"Sooo.. feel better?" Sarah asked when I got back to my desk.
"No... I threw up what I ate this morning... I hope I don't get sick, I'm already always tired from working over-time at the hospital." I said before laying my head down on top of my desk.
"Think maybe you picked something up at the hospital?" She asked while rubbing my back. Sarah was always comforting, always there when you got sick or just needed someone to talk to who was uplifting. The only downfall was that she didn't always keep everything to herself, Jake being one of them.
"I don't know, maybe...But this doesn't feel like the ordinary flu." I started getting cramps and then my boobs started aching.
"Owwwww...." I whined.
"What is it?" Sarah sounded really worried by this point. "My stomach hurts and now my boobs." "Maybe your pregnant." Sarah whispered. "Shhh...Sarah...I am not.. I am not pregnant." I whispered back. "Well you and Jake did have unprotected sex.. and you just threw up for no reason." She said as quietly and rationally as possible.
I did have unprotected sex(another thing I shouldn't have mentioned to Sarah), but Jake knew I wasn't on birth control...besides he pulled out I thought, trying to reassure myself that I was not pregnant.
"He pulled out!" I said in defence.
"Doesn't matter, there's still precum." She announced as if she was the expert in sex.
Of course I knew this too.. But the unlikely of that is slim to none.

Some of my work from second term classes
The assignment here was to do a brand remake on any product and than follow with two magazine ads. I choose Play-Doh.
This is my Sampling Project for Pampers Sensitive Wipes. It also includes codes for entering a contest online and a $2.00 coupon. (This would be sent out as a self mailer)

Nothingness
I found out today that I didn't do so hot as I thought I did on my PR Exam. 66%... not so good at all. Exactly I was surprised I did so poorly considering I studied quite a bit. The teacher I find marks harder as well. I have no PR experience, nor did I even know what a PR did or was, I still don't. It's all good though, I don't plan on going into that type of field at all so I am not to worried. I find it to be a very boring class, it's all common sense stuff basically but the assignments are always hard. I do like the teacher though so I guess thats a plus.
